On Tuesday October 17th, State Representative Dave Yaccarino visited North Haven High School to speak with juniors and seniors in Civics and United States History classes taught by Mr. Bryan Smith.
Rep. Yaccarino offered the students insight on the daily life of a state representative, his history serving the people of North Haven, and how his role fits into the complicated landscape of local, state, and federal government issues – and even sometimes global.
“I absolutely cherish the opportunity to meet with students, especially at North Haven High School as they are preparing to become registered voters and engaged citizens. They are incredibly interested in the lawmaking process and I am happy to provide a unique perspective, as they do in return,” Yaccarino said. “Our North Haven students displayed their brightness with thoughtful questions and meaningful discussion. Each time I visit, I am more encouraged for the future.”
Rep. Yaccarino has long been a supporter of North Haven Public Schools, their students, faculty, and staff, and ensuring they have access to any valuable resources to build a stronger school community.
In the 2023 legislative session, Rep. Yaccarino helped secure an 11% increase in Education Cost Sharing (ECS) funding for North Haven over the two-year budget. Additionally, Yaccarino has celebrated grant awards to North Haven to refurbish school grounds including athletic facilities at North Haven Middle School, most recently in June 2023.
“Our North Haven Public Schools are lined with dedicated faculty and staff who invest so much to help our students grow and succeed. They deserve our full and strong support and they will always have mine,” Rep. Yaccarino said.
Rep. Yaccarino has served North Haven for 13 years as State Representative for the 87th Assembly District.
Rep. Yaccarino serves as House Republican Senior Whip. Rep. Yaccarino serves as Ranking Member on the Executive & Legislative Nominations Committee and is a member of the state’s General Law, Labor, and Finance, Revenue, & Bonding Committees.
