State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) the Legislature’s Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member, spent the morning collecting donations for the Connecticut Veterans Home in Rocky Hill.
The event was part of the 12th annual “State Capitol Secret Santa Collection,” which collects donations of new and unwrapped, clothing and personal items for hundreds of local veterans residing at the state facility.
“Through this Annual Secret Santa event we are providing the basic necessities to the nearly 400 veterans residing at the Rocky Hill facility. There is no greater imperative than to help those who have served our country, especially during this holiday season,” said Yaccarino.
The veterans residing at the Rocky Hill facility continue to be in need of many basic personal items, this collection helps provide these necessities. The annual collection sets up donation points throughout the Capitol complex. After the press conference, the donations were loaded into a van for delivery to the Veterans Home.
Since 1863, the residential facility at the Veterans Home has provided veterans with a place to live and a range of rehabilitative services designed to prepare veterans for their return to into the community.
