With the leadership and inspiration of North Haven community enthusiast, Deborah Ward-O’Brien and her family, friends and colleagues—September: Season for a Cure, a fundraiser to benefit the bone marrow transplant program at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven is scheduled. The event will take place on September 12, 2012, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the New Haven Country Club, 160 Hartford Turnpike in Hamden, CT and will feature live music, a wine tasting hosted by Mt. Carmel Wine and Spirits, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, raffles and prizes.
Active in politics and community work, Deb has been battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma for more than five years. Deb’s response to her illness is action as she continues to raise awareness of the life-saving possibilities associated with bone marrow transplants. She recently retired from a successful nursing career during which time she provided counsel and care for geriatric patients and served as an active member of various research teams. In March of 2012, Debbie organized and hosted a bone marrow drive for the national Be The Match donor registry.
How can you help? Please consider supporting the cause with the purchase of an individual or company sponsorship, by donating merchandise or gift cards for silent auction or raffle, and/or by purchasing tickets to attend and support the event. The fundraiser involves no administrative or other costs—100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Checks are payable to Smilow Cancer Hospital.
