On Friday March 4th, State Rep. Dave Yaccarino (R-87) visited Ridge Road School in North Haven to celebrate Read Across America week with students in two classes.
Rep. Yaccarino held a vote among students, who elected he read “Duck for President” by Doreen Cronin.
The annual tradition, promoted by the National Education Association (NEA), began in 1998 as a way to promote childhood literacy and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
“Read Across America is one of my favorite traditions. I was so glad to meet with students and discuss the importance of reading, self-confidence, and treating others with respect,” Rep. Yaccarino said. “Thank you greatly to the dedicated faculty and staff at Ridge Road for inviting me.”
According to its website, the NEA seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. For more information about this great event please visit www.nea.org/readacross.
