On the north steps of the Capitol in Hartford on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) joined 150 legislators in the House of Representatives in being sworn in, taking the oath of office in an outdoor ceremony.
January 6, 2021 is considered Opening Day for the legislature as it marks the beginning of the 2021 legislative session that will conclude on June 9, 2021. Rep. Yaccarino, who was sworn in as state representative for the 87th General Assembly District which includes the town of North Haven, indicated that fixing the state’s ailing budget, assisting unemployed residents and hurting businesses get back to work, and continuing to advance the bioscience industry in the state will all be top priorities.
“While my main concern this legislative session will be mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in our state, I also believe we must work to help businesses and families during this difficult time,” said Rep. Yaccarino. “I will continue my efforts towards growing jobs and ensuring Connecticut is an affordable state to live and do business in. During the day, Governor Lamont addressed House and Senate members with his State of the State speech, which touched mainly on public health and the economic struggles that continue to plague Connecticut after the effects of COVID-19.
This session, the legislature will be tasked with crafting a new two-year state budget that will fix the persistent deficits hampering economic recovery and the staggering unemployment rate.
Yaccarino will serve as a member on the legislature’s Commerce, Finance, Revenue and Bonding, and Executive and Legislative Nominations committees. Yaccarino will also serve as Co-Chair of the Bioscience Caucus.
