Quinnipiac University will host an information session for prospective graduate students interested in the physician assistant program at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12, on the North Haven Campus, 370 Bassett Road.
The session will begin with a presentation by the graduate admissions and financial aid staff followed by a breakout session with the program director and current students who will answer questions about the program.
Fully licensed by the state of Connecticut, Quinnipiac’s physician assistant program leads to a master of health sciences degree and provides the clinical and academic preparation needed for the diverse responsibilities undertaken by physician assistants. Quinnipiac is a member of the Association of Physician Assistant Programs and accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA). The program is ranked fifth nationally by U.S. News & World Report.
In hospitals, private practices, clinics and health maintenance organizations, physician assistants take patient histories, perform routine diagnostic studies, assist in emergency medicine, monitor patient progress and manage therapeutic plans – all under the supervision of a physician. In recent years, the role of the physician assistant has grown dramatically, and qualified PAs are among the most sought-after professionals in health care.
Quinnipiac’s 27-month program provides intensive course work in biology and the applied sciences and involves students in an extensive network of fieldwork experiences – including in hospitals, medical centers, extended-care facilities and nursing homes.
The mission of Quinnipiac’s physician assistant program is to increase access to quality health care through the education and development of caring, knowledgeable and competent physician assistants who are dedicated to professionalism, leadership, community outreach and cultural competence.
