Ray Andrewsen of North Haven, general manager of AM 1220 WQUN.
Ray Andrewsen of North Haven, general manager of AM1220 WQUN, has been elected to the board of directors of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association. He will serve a three-year term, beginning in January.
“I am very proud to represent WQUN and Quinnipiac University on this state board,” Andrewsen said. “Connecticut is blessed to have a large variety of broadcasting outlets and it’s very exciting to be able to advocate on their behalf as a board member.”
The Connecticut Broadcasters Association (CBA) represents Connecticut’s commercial, public, religious, college and high school radio and television stations. Members include more than 115 stations, associates and individuals who participate in public service campaigns supporting the work of the Connecticut National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Emergency Services. The CBA facilitates the work of charitable and public service organizations by connecting them with radio and television stations.
“I would like to be a voice for small market community broadcasters and ensure that we create resources to allow those outlets to serve their local constituencies effectively,” he said. “We will need to reach out to new generations of high school and college students to encourage them to seek employment and opportunities in our radio and television fields.”
Andrewsen, who has been at WQUN, which is owned by Quinnipiac, since it was founded in 1997, has nearly 30 years of experience in broadcasting. As host of “The Morning Show with Ray Andrewsen,” he strives to provide a sense of community among residents of Greater New Haven County by playing music and featuring local community leaders and organizations.
Before joining WQUN as assistant general manager for operations, Andrewsen worked in radio broadcasting in Middletown, Washington, D.C., Framingham, Massachusetts and Waterbury. He also has experience working in real estate, sales and management.
In addition to WQUN and the CBA, Andrewsen is involved with various organizations in Connecticut, including the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce, Hamden Juvenile Review Board, Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers and Christian Community Action. He also is president of the advisory board of the New Haven Salvation Army.
Andrewsen graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children, Christian and Chandler.
