League Eat and Meet

The legislators sat at different tables, providing citizens a rare opportunity to sit up close with someone whom most know as a name in the paper or online or a face on TV.

Of the sixty-one present at the “Breakfast with the Legislators” that the League of Women Voters of Hamden-North Haven held at the Whitney Center in January, fifteen were Hamden high school students, which added to the energy of the event. Panera catered and donated some services.

The legislators sat at different tables, providing citizens a rare opportunity to sit up close with someone whom most know as a name in the paper or online or a face on TV. All legislators who represent Hamden and North Haven in Hartford, except Minority Leader Sen. Len Fasano, were interacting with constituents: Rep. Michael D’Agostino, Rep. Robyn Porter, Senate President Pro Tempore Leader Martin Looney, House Speaker Brendan Sharkey, Chief Deputy President Pro Tempore and Federal Relations Liaison Joseph Crisco, Jr., and Rep. Dave Yaccarino.

The second part of the morning had the legislators in the stage for a Q&A. The questions were many (given to the moderator in writing) and elicited from the legislators varied information. The value of the Breakfast showed itself when nine individuals, among them two men and Rep. Porter, decided to join the League.

You can watch the Breakfast with the Legislators on NHTV (Comcast 18, Frontier U-Verse 99) the weeks of 3/16/15,3/23/15), and 3/30 at these times:

  • Monday: 1:00 pm, 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 10:00 am, 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 1:00 pm
  • Thursday: 2:00 pm
  • Friday: 10:00 am, 8:00 pm
  • Saturday: 6:00 pm

The League is an organization that provides men (since 1974) and women (since 1920) with occasions to grow in civic awareness and to spread that awareness to others in the community. LWV neither supports nor opposes political candidates and invites individuals of all political persuasions to join and work together for a stronger democracy. To discuss joining, contact elvais@comcast.net or call 203/248-8035.
